A simple block repeated. Choose five colors. The placement of color makes the blocks stand out or recede into the background. It only looks complicated and gives the illusion of multiple blocks.

Simple straight piecing with half-square triangles. Any fabric looks terrific. You can use batiks as shown or a black background with jewel tone blocks would be stunning. Pattern has directions for a table runner, twin and queen size quilt.

Easy enough for a beginner but the results are satisfying enough for the more experienced. Try it made up in flannel. A great project that you can piece in an afternoon.
